About

I was born the eighth Joe in a long, proud lineage of Joe’s on September 24, 1981 in Bremerton, Washington. My parents were (and are) Joseph and Suzanne Burke (or “Joe” and “Sue” if you know ‘em [you can also refer to my dad as Joe-7 if you are on a spaceship]). They birthed another proud Burke, Christina (or “Chrissy,” in familial circles), 2.5 years my junior.

The geography in my life, thus far, works as follows. I will spare you the mundane details of address changes, “homeless weeks,” etc.:

  • 1981 / Bremerton, Washington (Kitsap County)
  • 1982-1986 / Portage and Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo County): “The Subsidized Apartment Years”
  • 1986-2000 / Paw Paw, Michigan (Van Buren County): “The Formative Years”
  • 2000-2001 / Lansing, Michigan (Ingham County): “The Depressing Yet Also Formative Year”
  • 2001-Present / New York Metropolitan Area (Kings and Queens Counties): “Fuck You, Comfortable Living!”

I work as a graphic designer and live in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. As of October 2008, I’m now legally bound to my Frau, Katherine Tomko (or “Katie” if the extra syllable is too much). In addition to a charming collection of bric-a-brac and “old shit,” we have a charcoal grey rabbit named Phoebe who helps us “keep it real” and “circumvent frontin’.” And thus completes our vegetarian trinity.

When I’m not typing ridiculous biographies, I divide my time between the music I release as Obfusc (obfusc.net | myspace.com/obfusc), photography, urban exploration, field recording, vegetarian cooking, and the occasional nature excursion.
